Prenatal care

The primary goal of prenatal care is to safeguard the health and well-being of you and your baby throughout your pregnancy journey. When you choose a midwife, you’re not just accessing medical support; you’re establishing a trusting and compassionate partnership.

Your midwife is here to educate and empower you, offering individualized care that ensures you’re not simply shuffled through a series of providers. Your voice is heard, your concerns are addressed, and you are an active participant in your care. It’s this level of personalized, attentive prenatal care that paves the way for better outcomes for both you and your precious little one.

The main goal of the intake visit is to collect crucial information regarding your health and medical history, while also initiating your care. This visit takes place in the comfort of your own home and typically lasts for 60 to 90 minutes. Here’s what you should anticipate during your intake visit:

  • Intake paperwork completed and initial deposit paid
  • Review of family, health, and pregnancy history
  • Partial physical exam
  • Blood pressure monitoring
  • Assessment of fetal heart tones and position of baby
  • Fetal growth check
  • Initial lab work
  • Nutrition and exercise counseling
  • Resource review
  • In-depth discussion of all questions and/or concerns

These visits are an opportunity to discuss your health and well-being, measure the growth and listen to your baby, address any concerns, and monitor the progress of your pregnancy. Your midwife will provide personalized care, offer valuable guidance, and ensure you are well-prepared for the upcoming journey of childbirth.

The 20-week diagnostic ultrasound, often referred to as the “anatomy scan”, is a crucial prenatal screening and diagnostic procedure. It typically takes place around the middle of the second trimester of pregnancy, at approximately 18 to 22 weeks gestation. The primary purpose of the 20-week diagnostic ultrasound is to provide a comprehensive assessment of your developing baby.

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of your baby, we require that all clients have a 20-week diagnostic and anatomy scan. We can provide referral to a collaborative sonographer who can conduct the diagnostic ultrasound at their office. The cost of the ultrasound is not included in the home birth package and is billed directly by the sonographer.
